US President Joe Biden has rejected calls for a ceasefire in Gaza, saying it will not bring peace.
“As long as Hamas adheres to its ideology of destruction, a cease-fire is not peace. Hamas will use any cease-fire to restock its rocket stockpile, regroup fighters and restart attacks on innocents,” Biden wrote in an article for the Washington Post.
“Our goal should not be to stop the war today, the war should be ended forever. We should break the cycle of continuous violence and build something strong in Gaza and throughout the Middle East so that history does not repeat itself,” he added.
Biden also called on Israel to respect humanitarian law and minimize the loss of civilian life. He said that the two-state solution is the only permanent solution to the conflict in the region, and that in the meantime there should be a government under the Palestinian administration.

“As we pursue peace, Gaza and the West Bank should be reunited under a single governance structure, ultimately under a revitalized Palestinian Authority, as we work toward a two-state solution. There must be no forced displacement of Palestinians from Gaza, no reoccupation, siege or blockade, and no reduction territory,” he wrote.
