A cargo ship with 12 crew members sank

A Turkish cargo ship with 12 crew members sank off the coast of the Black Sea due to a storm, and the authorities are unable to establish contact with the crew, Turkish Interior Minister Ali Jerlikaya said.

Turkish officials said earlier that the captain of the cargo ship “Kafkametler” reported yesterday that the ship was drifting towards the Eregli embankment in Zonguldak province in northwestern Turkey.

Jerlikaja pointed out that the ship sank after hitting the embankment.

The region was affected by a strong storm and officials point out that because of the bad weather, rescuers could not start a search from the sea and from the air.

“When the weather conditions improve, search and rescue operations will begin,” Jerlikaya said.
